Untitled File Names. Why Does That Keep on Happening?

You’ve been using Adobe Lightroom Classic for a while now. And yet you can’t figure out why the Untitled file name is the name of every photo after every import.

Untitled File Name

Thumbnail header with Untitled file name

Untitled file names happen when you’ve checked Lightroom Classic’s file renaming feature in the import dialog and left the Custom Text field empty.

File Renaming

Custom text field shows untitled

What makes it really easy to miss, is when the File Renaming panel is closed. Out of sight, out of mind.

File Naming window is closed

If you have closed the file renaming window, it’s easy to forget that it’s empty or has the wrong information in the Custom Text field

Or, you may have file names you used a long time ago and your imports have the wrong name. Something like Pittsburgh when, in fact, you were in Florence, Italy. Again, if you close the File Renaming panel, this easy to miss.

Here’s my video on how this happens and using file renaming in the Lightroom Classic Library to help you correct this issue.
