Adobe Lightroom 9.3 Features Update

Lightroom 9.3 features major enhancements beyond what we usually expect in a dot release. And, as David Mark Erickson mentioned in a previous blog post, Adobe has also done a redesign of all their product logos.  Let’s take a look at a few of these new changes and features in Lightroom Classic.

Best Practice Settings for Lightroom Classic — Part I

Lightroom Classic Preference Settings

I was configuring the Preferences and Catalog Settings for a new Lightroom Classic catalog the other week and I realized that there isn’t a lot of good information about which settings are the most important to pay attention to. So, I conferred with D.A. Wagner and we came up with a list of the most important settings that need attention for running Lightroom Classic.

Where’s the PDF Lightroom Classic Manual?

So, we looked for a current PDF of the Lightroom Classic Manual and couldn’t find one!

Lightroom (both versions) has an official URL for user manuals. But there hasn’t been a PDF Lightroom Classic Manual download available for quite some time. The good news is, the Lightroom basics haven’t changed all that much. And there is a somewhat recent Lightroom Classic Manual posted on Adobe for download.

Lightroom Crashes!

I thought I’d seen the last of this, but Lightroom crashes suddenly on Macs. It just disappears from the screen in an instant. I used to see this more often with Lightroom 6, but I still see it happening. Usually after an update to Classic from earlier versions of Lightroom. This issue seems to be MacOS agnostic as it happens with Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave with Lightroom 6, 7 and right up to 8.4.1.

Here’s what happens:

Everything is fine in the Library. Imports, moving folders,

1-2-3 Lightroom Develop Strategy

Our 1-2-3 Lightroom develop strategy is an easy and fast approach to great results for raw captures (JPEGs, too). Beginners and even experienced Lightroom users can benefit from utilizing Adobe Sensei’s ever improving machine learning. These features are incorporated into the Develop module of both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC. Using the 1-2-3 Lightroom develop strategy takes less time and is far more productive than poking around with sliders, especially if you’re unsure of what the sliders do.

Recently, we’ve had a number of Lightroom Classic 8 clients on older Macs complain that the Spot Removal tool is slow. Even on a 2015 iMac with decent specs, running on an i7 processor with 16GB RAM and Fusion drive, the Spot Removal tool is slow.

How to Create Copyright Preset for Lightroom Classic

2020-05-28T18:09:32+00:00January 2nd, 2019|Adobe Lightroom Classic, How To's, Library|

It’s 2019 – Time to update your Lightroom copyright preset.

The method to create a Lightroom copyright preset hasn’t changed over the years. But like many things we only need to do once, we forget the process. So, as a public service, here’s the step-by-step process:

Create the Copyright Preset

In the Library Module, go to the Metadata Panel and from Preset pulldown menu on the right side, choose “Edit Presets.” If you should find the Metadata panel completely blank, you’ll need to select a photograph. Then the Metadata
